Final Project
Today we did our final critique. Overall it went very well I enjoyed this project the best out of all of them. My original model was entirely different from the lamp shade I turned in for the final. I originally wanted to make a circular shape with tracing paper and strips of bristol paper, however, after trying to construct the shape into a perfect circle it never worked, so I had to think of a completely different way to shape it. I finally came up with the idea of cutting smaller strips of bristol paper and placing them randomly to make a circular shape. It turned out great with the light bulb in it and the lights off because the reflections of the scattered pieces reflected off the walls and made it look even better.

Light/Lantern project
Today everyone came in with their 3-5 designs and/or drawings. I am working on a design that consists of a circular shape with cut out strips that attach in the center. I was thinking of making a smaller circle inside a bigger circle. So far I have been playing around with it and I have thought about making small dots along the strips to make it more interesting. It was great to look at everyone else's designs and it helped me think of more ideas I can do with mine. I do not think this project is TOO difficult but it does take a lot of time...and money.

Work Day
Today is a work day. We are working on our booklets and everything that is supposed to be due on thursday. I wish that it wasn't so crammed with everything that is due in one day. It would make everything a lot easier. I plan on making a model of my booklet and how it is supposed to be designed today during class.

Groups
On thursday we got into our groups to continue working on making our 3D letters and location for where to place our word. We thought of many different places such as, floating the word in the lake with one letter floating by itself, each letter going down stairs or going down a hill, or placing the word below a tree and having a letter in the tree. As a group we came up with a lot of ideas and we got a lot done in class along with our 3D model. During class margie came around to look at our refined images from project 4. I was given a lot of good advice and I have a lot of changes to make.

Project 4
In class we were introduced to our project 4. Using color was one of the topics discussed. It does not look difficult after being shown exactly what to do. I look forward to working with illustrator again and improving our words we chose.

"Change"
On tuesday we turned in our posters and process notebooks for project 3. After that we critiqued our word we were supposed to choose and express it in a form of communication to viewers. It was very interesting to see what everyone else created for their word. I enjoyed working in class and coming up with many different ways to communicate the word "change."

What Language Looks Like
Today our assignment was to express the meaning of a word. I expressed the meaning of the word "change" using 2 dimensions on flat piece of paper. I really enjoy this assignment so far. Most of class we cut out the word we had printed off and placed them in a 6 x 6 box any way we wanted to. Everyone did a great job with their words. However, I was unsure of how many boxes we had to do.

Critique
Today was the final critique for our hand tool project. I am still finding trouble with Illustrator and how to crop scanned images. I have discovered Livetrace which will hopefully help me with cropping. I love everyones projects they are very unique and creative. The critique helped me a lot with changes that need to be made. I am looking forward to finishing this project and seeing how my images end up.

Illustrator...
Working with Illustrator is very frustrating. When designing my graphical and geometric shapes pages I found it extremely easy to complete. When I began my other pages however, it was a nightmare. I have spent more of my time trying to figure out how to do things and correcting my mistakes (which were a lot). I found it very helpful to see other peoples designs for their object and I was very glad to have Margie come around and give me good advice.

Critique
In class today we critiqued our 16 different representations which identified the concept of the object we chose. I chose to do "Wite-Out." You wouldn't think it would be very difficult to come up with 16 different representations of a simple bottle of "Wite-Out" however, it was. Finding different ideas for the index and hybrid of my object was the most challenging but after seeing everyones ideas it helped me come up with some ways to draw out the index and hybrid of my object.

Illustrator
Today at the beginning of class we were working with Illustrator. Illustrator was a little difficult to work with. The pace we went at was too fast. However, when I was caught up it made much more sense. I feel like I understand it much more and I look forward to using it more in the future.
Our group projects were given back along with grades. I was surprised I did not do as well as I thought I did. I now know a lot for future reference what is important and what needs to be included in the projects, presentation, and process notebook.

BDS 101
Our process notebooks were discussed today. After seeing examples of students in our class it gave me a much better understanding of what needs to be included in them. Showing not only my own work but everyone from the teams work should be presented in our notebooks. I liked looking at the animal projects done by past design students. That was very helpful with my creativity for this project.

Interior Design
I chose to major in Interior design because they draw upon many disciplines to enhance function, safety, and aesthetics of interior spaces. Their main concerns are with how different colors, textures, furniture, lighting, and space work together to meet the needs of a building's occupants. They plan interior spaces of almost every type of building, including offices, airport terminals, theaters, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, schools, hospitals, and private residences.

IDEO Deep Dive video
In the IDEO Deep Dive video I saw a highly unstructured process, putting out a random array of ideas very dependent on the skills, experiences, and knowledge of the people in the room. Critically, they help everyone get on the same page - not just of other team members but the same page as the people who will use, manage, or buy it.
